Hand-drawn cross-section of one cone-shaped volcano cut in half to show its inside: deep underground at the bottom, a large glowing red-orange magma chamber; one narrow central pipe (the vent) of red magma rises from the chamber straight up through brown and grey rock layers to the bowl-shaped crater at the top. A big dark grey cloud of ash puffs up out of the crater into the sky. Down one side of the mountain flows one bright orange river of lava. Only these things: the rock layers, the magma chamber, the vent, the crater, the ash cloud and the lava flow. Nothing else in the picture, plenty of empty sky.
