The outer layer is a thin light reddish-brown cortex; inside it are six darker triangular cone-shaped medullary pyramids arranged in a ring with their tips pointing inward; the pyramids drain into a hollow funnel-shaped renal pelvis in the inner curve; from the pelvis a single tube, the ureter, runs straight down out of the bottom of the picture. At the inner notch (hilum) one red artery and one blue vein enter the kidney above the ureter. Only this one kidney; nothing else in the picture, no labels.
