The prompt behind the picture

Image prompt
A medical textbook diagram of one human kidney cut in half lengthwise, bean-shaped, centred. The outer layer is a thin light reddish-brown cortex; inside it are six darker triangular cone-shaped medullary pyramids arranged in a ring with their tips pointing inward; the pyramids drain into a hollow funnel-shaped renal pelvis in the inner curve; from the pelvis a single tube, the ureter, runs straight down out of the bottom of the picture. At the inner notch (hilum) one red artery and one blue vein enter the kidney above the ureter. Only this one kidney; nothing else in the picture, no labels. Plain background with lots of empty space, 4:3. Coloured pencil and watercolour marker, clean black ink outlines, warm off-white paper, no text.

The picture came from an image model; any finished illustration works the same way, including one you drew. Use the prompt as a starting point for your own topic.

How this clip was made

The picture above was made with an image model from the prompt above; WhiteboardAnimation.ai then drew it, stroke by stroke, as the clip at the top of this page.

Notes from making it

The parts of the kidney were checked against the National Cancer Institute’s SEER training page on kidney anatomy, and how the kidneys work against NIDDK’s page. The nephrons are too small to draw, so they are only described in the narration.

Kidney diagram, step by step

A script to read over it, timed to the drawing: the lines go down first and the colour arrives on the last beat.

  1. 0:00Line artYou have two kidneys. Each one is shaped like a bean and is about the size of a fist.
  2. 0:09This kidney is cut in half so we can see inside. The reddish outer layer is called the cortex.
  3. 0:19Inside it is the darker medulla, made of pyramid-shaped parts whose tips point to the middle.
  4. 0:28Each kidney has about a million tiny filters called nephrons. They clean the blood and turn wastes and extra water into urine.
  5. 0:37ColourBlood comes in through the renal artery and leaves, cleaned, through the renal vein, at the notch on the side of the kidney.
  6. 0:47Urine collects in the renal pelvis in the middle, then flows down a thin tube called the ureter to the bladder.

Where this kidney diagram animation fits

Use it in a biology or health lesson on the human body and the urinary system, before labelling a kidney worksheet, or as a short clip in a science video for kids. The same process turns your own diagram into a clip.

About this example

Pro includes a commercial licence: use your whiteboard animation clips in client work, explainer videos, ads and paid courses. Free and Starter clips are for personal and non-commercial use.
One finished picture — PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Illustrations, diagrams and flat artwork work best: the kind of picture a doodle video or explainer video is built from.
About fifteen seconds before your hand-drawn animation starts to draw. The video is as long as you choose, and saving it takes a few seconds more.
