The prompt behind the picture

Image prompt
Hand-drawn model of a single water molecule in the middle of the paper: one large red ball (the oxygen atom) with two smaller white balls (the hydrogen atoms) attached to it by short sticks. Both small white balls sit on the lower side of the red ball, one down-left and one down-right, forming a wide V shape like an upside-down letter V, with the angle between them a little wider than a right angle. Exactly one red ball and exactly two white balls. Nothing else in the picture, plenty of empty space all around. Coloured pencil and watercolour marker, clean black ink outlines, warm off-white paper, no text.

The picture came from an image model; any finished illustration works the same way, including one you drew. Use the prompt as a starting point for your own topic.

How this clip was made

The picture above was made with an image model from the prompt above; WhiteboardAnimation.ai then drew it, stroke by stroke, as the clip at the top of this page.

Notes from making it

Each fact in the narration was checked against the US Geological Survey’s Water Science School.

Water molecule, step by step

A script to read over it, timed to the drawing: the lines go down first and the colour arrives on the last beat.

  1. 0:00Line artAll water is made of tiny pieces called water molecules. Let’s look at one.
  2. 0:04Each water molecule has one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms. That’s why water is written H₂O.
  3. 0:08ColourBoth hydrogen atoms sit on the same side of the oxygen atom, so the molecule is bent, a bit like a wide letter V.
  4. 0:13The hydrogen side has a small positive charge and the oxygen side a negative one. So water molecules stick to each other, and to many other things too.

Where this water molecule animation fits

Use it in a chemistry or science lesson on atoms and molecules, to start a topic on why water dissolves so many things, or as a short clip in a science video for kids. The same process turns your own diagram into a clip.

About this example

Pro includes a commercial licence: use your whiteboard animation clips in client work, explainer videos, ads and paid courses. Free and Starter clips are for personal and non-commercial use.
One finished picture — PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Illustrations, diagrams and flat artwork work best: the kind of picture a doodle video or explainer video is built from.
About fifteen seconds before your hand-drawn animation starts to draw. The video is as long as you choose, and saving it takes a few seconds more.
