The prompt behind the picture

Image prompt
Hand-drawn diagram of a plant cell cut open to show its inside: one large rectangular box-shaped cell with a thick green outer cell wall and a thin pale line of cell membrane just inside it. Inside, the pale cytoplasm holds: one very large clear pale-blue central vacuole filling most of the middle of the cell, one round purple nucleus with a darker nucleolus dot pushed to the side between the vacuole and the wall, five small oval green chloroplasts with stacked lines inside spread along the edges, and two small bean-shaped orange mitochondria. Nothing else in the picture, plenty of empty space around the cell. Coloured pencil and watercolour marker, clean black ink outlines, warm off-white paper, no text.

The picture came from an image model; any finished illustration works the same way, including one you drew. Use the prompt as a starting point for your own topic.

How this clip was made

The picture above was made with an image model from the prompt above; WhiteboardAnimation.ai then drew it, stroke by stroke, as the clip at the top of this page.

Notes from making it

Each part in the narration was checked against Britannica’s article on plant cells and the Talking Glossary of the US National Human Genome Research Institute.

Plant cell, step by step

A script to read over it, timed to the drawing: the lines go down first and the colour arrives on the last beat.

  1. 0:00Line artPlants are built from tiny cells. Let’s look inside one plant cell.
  2. 0:05Around the outside is a tough cell wall made of cellulose. It gives the cell support, protection and its shape.
  3. 0:10Just inside the wall is the thin cell membrane. Animal cells have a membrane too, but no cell wall.
  4. 0:15The big space in the middle is the vacuole. It holds water with salts and sugars, and its water pushes out against the wall to keep the plant firm.
  5. 0:20ColourThe green chloroplasts are where photosynthesis happens: they catch energy from sunlight to make food. The small orange mitochondria make most of the energy the cell needs.
  6. 0:25Pushed to one side is the nucleus. It holds the chromosomes, which carry the cell’s genetic instructions.

Where this plant cell diagram animation fits

Use it in a biology lesson on cells, next to an animal cell to compare the two, or as a short clip in a science video for kids. The same process turns your own diagram into a clip.

About this example

Pro includes a commercial licence: use your whiteboard animation clips in client work, explainer videos, ads and paid courses. Free and Starter clips are for personal and non-commercial use.
One finished picture — PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Illustrations, diagrams and flat artwork work best: the kind of picture a doodle video or explainer video is built from.
About fifteen seconds before your hand-drawn animation starts to draw. The video is as long as you choose, and saving it takes a few seconds more.
