How much a whiteboard animation video costs: hire an animator or make it yourself

By Published

TL;DR On 31 October 2026, a 60-second whiteboard animation video cost $5 to $600 to have made on Fiverr (median $35 across 23 gigs), $159 to $500 in Upwork project listings, and $397 to $2,800 or more at studios that publish their prices. A 2-minute video ran from $239 on Upwork to $3,900 at Broadcast2World and $5,950 for BuzzFlick’s top package. Making it yourself costs $10 to $60 in software for either length, plus your own hours for the script, the voice-over and the edit. Hire for one video that represents your business, when you have no script, no voice and no time. Make it yourself when you need many videos, will change them often, or already have the script and the pictures. Every price below was read on the seller’s own page that day.

What a whiteboard video costs to produce

Hired, for a 60-second and a 2-minute video, as each listing or studio price page showed it on 31 October 2026, in US dollars. Every hired option below writes, draws and voices the video for you, unless the row says otherwise.

What making it yourself costs

Making it yourself, the money is small and the same for 60 seconds or 2 minutes: one month of software, or a few credits. What it really costs is your hours.

Whiteboard animation video cost, made yourself: the least you pay for a 60-second and a 2-minute video without a watermark, with the sum.
How60-second video2-minute videoThe sumYou still do
VideoScribe Core, one month$60$60Core is the plan with no watermark at all (Lite, $35, watermarks premium images)Script, voice-over, placing and timing every image
Doodly Standard, one month$49$49$49 a month, cancelled afterScript, voice-over, placing and timing every image
WhiteboardAnimation.ai, credit pack (personal and non-commercial use)$10$10One credit draws one picture: 6 pictures at 10 s each for 60 s, 12 for 2 minutes; one 20-credit pack covers eitherScript, pictures, voice-over and the edit in your own editor
WhiteboardAnimation.ai Pro, one month (business use)$39$39Our terms give a commercial licence on Pro only; 200 creditsScript, pictures, voice-over and the edit in your own editor

Assumptions in these sums: one picture per 10-second beat of the script; you record the voice-over yourself; you already have a video editor; your pictures are your own. None of your hours are counted: multiply them by what an hour of yours is worth and add it. VideoScribe and Doodly prices were read on 30 October 2026; what every tool costs by the month and the year is in the software pricing guide.

A hand-drawn flow of four steps joined by arrows: a script page, a stack of pictures, one picture being drawn by a hand with a marker (circled in red), and a video timeline with clips above a voice-over waveform.
Illustration: script, pictures, drawing clips, edit. A hired animator does all four; with WhiteboardAnimation.ai you do the script, the pictures and the edit, and it does only the circled step.

How the whole job goes, step by step, is in how to make a whiteboard animation; getting a picture ready is in how to prepare a picture.

Should you hire or make it yourself?

The price gap is wide, but the deciding question is usually who writes the script and whose voice is on it.

  • Hire when

It is one video that will represent the business for a long time (a homepage, a launch, an ad), and you have no script, no voice and no one to edit. A studio sells the judgement of what to say as much as the drawing. Budget $3,200–$5,950 for 2 minutes from the studios above, or $239–$1,200 from a marketplace seller whose portfolio you have watched.

  • Make it yourself when

You need many videos (a course, a training library, a weekly channel), you will change them when the product changes, or you already have the script and the pictures. Each change to a hired video is a revision round or a new quote; yours is an edit.

  • Mix the two

Hire a scriptwriter or a voice actor and do the drawing and edit yourself, or hire one hero video and make the follow-ups yourself in the same style.

Hire a whiteboard animator or make the animation yourself: time, skills, revisions and rights, side by side.

What to check in a quote

Two quotes for the same length can buy very different things. The packages above differ on these points:

  • Length and words: most listings price by seconds and cap the words (120–150 words for 60 seconds in the Upwork tiers we read). A longer script is an extra.
  • Script: written for you, or you supply it. On Fiverr, 15 of the 23 gigs priced for 60 seconds did not list a script in their cheapest 60-second package.
  • Voice: a human voice actor, or not stated. Broadcast2World and 30 Second Productions both say human.
  • Revisions: how many rounds, and what one more costs.
  • Drawn for you, or library art: the cheapest listings rarely say; look at the portfolio.
  • Files and rights: a 1080p MP4 only, or the source files too, and whether you may use it in ads and paid courses.

Where WhiteboardAnimation.ai fits

We make WhiteboardAnimation.ai, so here is what it does and does not do for a whole video.

  • It draws your pictures. Upload a finished picture and it draws it by hand on screen, line art first, then colour; you set the length, the hand and the order after it is drawn without spending another credit.
  • It does not write, voice or edit. No script, voice-over, music or scenes: you finish the video in your own editor. That is why the DIY rows above say what you still do.
  • Free to try: 5 free credits after sign-up, 720p with a watermark. Paid plans and credit packs remove the watermark; transparent and layered export, and the commercial licence, are on Pro. Full details on the pricing page and in the terms.
  • From Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor: see MCP.

How we gathered the prices

  • Public prices only

A price is here only if a marketplace listing or the studio’s own page shows it to anyone. Studios that only quote on request are not in the table; guides that give a range without selling the video are not used as prices.

  • Fiverr and Upwork, one day

On 31 October 2026 we searched “whiteboard animation” on Fiverr (first results page, relevance order, 24 gigs) and on Upwork’s project catalog, and read each gig’s package table in US dollars: the cheapest package that runs at least 60 seconds, and at least 2 minutes.

  • Our own sums

The 2-minute studio prices are their per-30-second or per-minute price multiplied out, as each row says. The DIY sums count one month of software or one credit pack, and leave out tax, coupons and your hours.

  • Our own run

The drawing time is from our run of one picture through WhiteboardAnimation.ai on 30 October 2026; the example lengths come from our catalog.
